Chris graduated from Missouri State University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Insurance and Risk Management. He remained in school and completed his Master of Business Administration in 2007. Chris grew up around insurance spending many summers and school breaks working in the family business; however, he was not set on getting into the industry until working a summer as a Personal Lines Assistant Underwriter in 2003. During his senior year in college, he completed a month-long internship with Bell & Clements in London, England, and upon graduating spent two years working as an Associate Underwriter for Nautilus Insurance Company in Scottsdale, AZ.
In the spring of 2009, after the birth of their first child, the Peterson family moved back to the Kansas City area where Chris worked for Chris-Leef General Agency, Inc. as Vice President, overseeing all business operations for the company. Chris was promoted to President of Chris-Leef in April of 2019. Education is extremely important to Chris; he has completed ASLI, AU, AIS, and AINS designations and completed the AAMGA UFO Leadership Education Program in 2010. Chris has been an active member of AAMGA UFO (now WSIA U40) since 2009. Chris served as Chairman of Bell & Clements, LTD Advisory Council in 2016-2017 and on the Nationwide E&S/Specialty Agent’s Advisory Board. He currently serves as President of WSIA U40 and NAGA.
Chris lives in Olathe, KS, with his wife, Kira, and three sons, Logan, Reed, and Eli. He assists with coaching his son's baseball and football teams; he leads a class at Trail Life and serves as the troop treasurer. He enjoys playing sports (baseball, football, soccer, and golf) with the boys when he can. He also enjoys staying active via running, cycling, playing sports and weightlifting. He has run 5 half-marathons and a full marathon. In addition to the many sports and activities his family is involved with, he is actively involved in his church teaching a children's Sunday school class, serving as a Deacon and leading in Vacation Bible School.

Gary has been the President and CEO of Chris-Leef General Agency since its inception in 1982. In April of 2019, he decided to step down and promote his son, Christopher to take over as President. Gary is a graduate of Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS with a Bachelor of the Arts Degree. He also holds his CIW and ASLI Designations. Gary has been involved with a number of organizations and served in a number of positions over his career including the Penn-America Advisory Board, Scottsdale Advisory Board, National Alliance of General Agents (NAGA) - President, American Association of Managing General Agents (AAMGA) – Regional Director and Vice President, National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices (NAPSLO), Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), and Homeowners Association Boards.
Gary has three children (1 son and 2 daughters) and five grandchildren. He enjoys Scuba Diving, Hunting, and Snow Skiing.
